In Montpellier, a new scene of urban violence recently made headlines. On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, three boys leaving an indoor soccer center in Odysseum were attacked by a group of teenagers, the youngest of whom was only 12 years old. Law enforcement intervention on tram line 1 helped stop the attack and place the young suspects in custody. This tragic incident is part of a recent series of violent events in the region, raising concerns about the early radicalization of some young people. A scene of gratuitous violence in Odysseum That day, three boys aged 15 and 16 were leaving an indoor soccer center after a simple friendly game. These teenagers had no idea they were about to cross paths with a hostile group of teenagers, determined to fight for no apparent reason. After an initial attempt to escape their attackers, the victims were pursued to tram line 1 towards the Comédie.

A swift and life-saving police intervention

The alarm was raised while the group was on board the tram. Law enforcement, already on alert following a spate of similar incidents (see here for an example), intervened near the Antigone Olympic swimming pool, putting an end to this scene of gratuitous violence. The young attackers were arrested, and the safety of the passengers was restored. The disturbing profiles of the young attackers Of the six teenagers implicated, the youngest is only 12 years old, an age that raises questions about the intensity and precocious nature of their radicalization. Placed in detention, he joined his accomplices, aged 13 to 15, in police custody. The inconsistencies in their explanations only underscored the need for a more in-depth investigation. Law enforcement is currently using CCTV footage to determine the exact role of each individual in the attack.
