On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, a 46-year-old man was brutally attacked by two individuals in the Tournezy neighborhood of Montpellier. The perpetrators beat their victim to steal cigarettes. The rapid intervention of the police allowed them to arrest the attackers shortly after the incident. This incident once again raises questions about security in the city.

A violent attack in the middle of the night

It was around 4:30 a.m. when the peaceful nighttime atmosphere of Tiberias Square, in the heart of the city of Tournezy, was disrupted by a violent attack. A man in his forties, visibly bloodied and in shock, alerted the police patrol. According to his statements, two men brutally attacked him to extort cigarettes from him. Refusing to give in to their demands, he was violently beaten. Emergency Police Intervention

Immediately informed, law enforcement responded with remarkable efficiency. Thanks to the victim’s precise information regarding the make and color of the vehicle used by the attackers, the police quickly located and intercepted the suspect car in the nearby Nelson Mandela Street. Inside, the two perpetrators, aged 26 and 30, were formally identified and arrested.

Victim Taken into Care and Investigation Continued

Once the attackers were under control, the victim received emergency medical treatment for her injuries. Despite her state of shock, she was able to go to the police station to file a complaint and describe the circumstances of her attack. Meanwhile, the two perpetrators were taken into custody, while investigations continue to determine the exact motive for this gratuitous violence.

A Security Context in Montpellier

This latest incident prompts reflection on the climate of insecurity that appears to be taking hold in Montpellier. Recent events such as the assault related to a drug transaction and the attack on a man in his seventies reinforce this concern. Citizens and local authorities are wondering what measures can be taken to ensure the safety of residents and prevent such acts.

Faced with this major challenge, the city of Montpellier must respond to restore tranquility to its neighborhoods and offer Montpellier residents a greater sense of security on a daily basis.
