On October 4th, Montpellier’s Olympic pool becomes the stage for a unique initiative: the Swim for the Heart. This event, supported by the ACL (Languedoc-Roussillon Cardiology Association) and the CCS (Heart and Health Club) of Montpellier, invites young and old to take the plunge for a dual cause: cardiovascular health and intergenerational awareness. With varied activities such as aquabiking, lifesaving training, and enriching conferences, this event promises to combine sport, education, and solidarity.
An event dedicated to cardiovascular health
The Swim for the Heart, based at the Angelotti Olympic pool, returns this year for its second edition. After the resounding success of the first event on September 21st, where more than 250 swimmers covered an impressive total of 900 kilometers, the event is back with a clear objective: to highlight swimming as a valuable ally in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. These pathologies are unfortunately the second leading cause of death in France, just after cancer.
A rich program for all ages
Thanks to the unwavering support of the City of Montpellier and the Métropole, the Nage du Cœur event promises a day full of excitement for everyone. Children will have inflatable structures to have fun in the water, while adults can participate in aquabiking and aquagym sessions. Specific slots for aquabiking are available in the morning from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and in the afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., with a symbolic fee of five euros, in addition to the pool entrance fee.
Focus on awareness and education
The beauty of this event also lies in the educational impact it aims to have. Throughout the day, lifesaving training sessions will be offered to everyone, reinforcing the importance of knowing how to respond effectively in the event of a cardiac emergency.
Informative Lectures
Alongside the aquatic activities, lectures will be organized to share essential knowledge about the benefits of swimming for heart health. Professors Messner and Pasquié, in collaboration with Dr. Cade, will lead a discussion on the preventative effects of swimming. Dr. Hédon will focus on its benefits for people already suffering from heart disease. To conclude this scientific component, Jacques Tuset, a renowned adventure swimmer, will share his incredible experiences of extreme crossings.
