On the night of June 4th in Montpellier, a party with friends took a tragic turn when two assailants burst in, resulting in a young man being stabbed and another being humiliated in the street. The whole thing was captured on video, plunging Montpellier into a new wave of concern about the safety of its citizens.
Montpellier: Knife Attack in the City Center
At 1:00 a.m., on Rue Frédéric Fabrèges, between the Saint-Roch and Saint-Martin neighborhoods, three young men in their twenties, including a young woman, were sitting peacefully on a bench. The situation quickly escalated when two older individuals came uninvited to interfere. The encounter quickly turned violent, with one of the youths receiving a knife wound to the left side. Fortunately, although injured, he was able to escape and received medical treatment, which resulted in five days of total incapacity for work (ITT). Public Humiliation: Forced to Undress The brutality of the attack didn’t stop there. The young man, who stayed behind to try to defuse the situation, suffered a violent physical attack. The assailants surrounded him, slapping and punching him, then decided to escalate the humiliation. Frightened and disoriented, the young man was forced to run naked down the street. Videos of the assault captured by the assailants themselves bear witness to this humiliating scene. These shocking images added a dimension of cruelty to the already traumatic incident.
Arrest and Investigation Underway Faced with this unprecedented violence, a complaint was filed the following day, June 5. Thanks to video evidence and a thorough investigation by the national police, the two attackers were identified and arrested on June 26. While in police custody, they largely admitted to the charges against them. They were taken to the Montpellier prosecutor’s office and face an immediate appearance on June 27, 2025.
