As the holiday season approaches, the Galerie de l’Ancien Courrier, a historic venue in Montpellier, opens its doors to a unique artistic world. Under the discerning direction of Claire Bornerand, this gallery presents a group exhibition featuring twelve artists. This constantly evolving, mobile exhibition project explores a rich and moving artistic dialogue that resonates with viewers’ sensibilities and offers a renewed experience with each visit.

An Iconic Venue in the Heart of Montpellier Montpellier

would not be the same without its cultural landmarks, and the Galerie de l’Ancien Courrier is a perfect example. Founded in 1990, it remains the city’s oldest art gallery, a living testament to the artistic evolution and ways of thinking of this dynamic city.

What makes this space unique is the meticulous care Claire Bornerand takes in selecting the works and artists. Her vision makes the gallery a gathering place for art lovers, both local and international. Her latest initiative reflects this same passion: a dynamic exhibition that captivates every viewer with its vitality and diversity.

A Dynamic and Inspiring Group ExhibitionFor the holidays, the gallery transforms into a veritable

artistic ballet.

The group exhibition brings together twelve artists whose passion nourishes the heart of Montpellier. Among them are local creators who have become intimately connected to the Montpellier art scene, as well as international artists who bring a global perspective to this event.

Kirsten Bøgh’s Nocturnal Poetry

In her piece entitled “A Night in Montpellier,” Danish artist Kirsten Bøgh gracefully captures the essence of summer nights in the South of France. She manages to create an atmosphere where the gentle warmth of the facades and the soft light become almost palpable.

Bernard Calvet: An Indelible Presence

Despite his passing last year, Bernard Calvet remains a pillar of the Galerie de l’Ancien Courrier. His works still radiate a caressing light, with subtle details that transcend physical absence and awaken a silent yet profound dialogue with visitors.

Élisa Cossonnet: Sensitive Nature

Élisa Cossonnet, residing in the Hérault hinterland, translates the living nature she discovers through her walks. Her works, deliberately contrasting wisdom and passion, paint the invisible—that which the hurried eye cannot see, but which remains at the heart of the landscape.

An Artistic Plurality from Elsewhere

Alongside local artists are creators from further afield, such as Magí Puig and Rusiñol Masramon. Their works bring a Catalan perspective to the collective, capturing and reinventing everyday landscapes through an alchemical or ironic lens.

Christophe Marmey: Between Architecture and Music

A former architect and lifelong painter, Christophe Marmey explores a “subjective figuration” that blurs the lines between dream and reality. His works, imbued with Mediterranean harmony and his love of music, vibrate with the light he so skillfully harnesses.
