In Montpellier, the Palais des Sports de Veyrassi is taking a leap forward with the installation of a new climbing wall 13 meters in height. Funded by the University of Montpellier to the tune of 408,000 euros, this modern equipment broadens the horizons of students in the sciences and techniques of physical and sporting activities (STAPS). The wall, with its 3.5 meters of slope, offers around fifty routes and more than 3,500 holds, allowing you to practice in all the major disciplines of this exhilarating sport.
A Significant Inauguration

The new wall, an impressive structure of 13 meters, was presented to students and the general public. The major event, which is part of the modernization of the site’s sports facilities, marks an important step for the University of Montpellier in its approach to enriching sports training.

The objective of this ambitious investment is to provide the students of the UFR STAPS, as well as the entire Montpellier campus, with equipment tip for climbing. With more than 2,200 students registered each year in various sports programs, the new wall is part of a desire to promote and facilitate sporting excellence.
Students will now be able to sharpen their skills in three key disciplines: block, there difficulty and the speed. This new asset not only raises the level of practice but also prepares future athletes for major competitions.
A Structure Designed for Progress
The climbing wall at the Palais des Sports de Veyrassi has been carefully designed to encourage the progress of climbers of all levels. With 3.5 meters of slope, it offers athletes different levels of difficulty, allowing everyone to find routes adapted to their abilities.
The presence of 50 channels and more than 3,500 shots allows a wide variety of routes and encourages the improvement of techniques and strategies necessary for high-level climbing. The structure meets the strict standards of the competition, making it possible to organize significant sporting events.
Opening beyond STAPS Students
Although mainly intended for students of the UFR STAPS as part of their sports training, this new climbing wall is also open to all students of the University of Montpellier thanks to the SUAPS (University Department of Physical and Sports Activities).
In the near future, it is planned to make this equipment accessible to students from other establishments as well as to members of local sports associations. In doing so, the campus could assert itself as a place of essential reference for climbing enthusiasts and enthusiasts in Montpellier looking for new and exciting challenges.
