In Montpellier Sud’s district, Restanque stands out as an innovative hub dedicated to art and creativity. This iconic space, born from the vision of Keini Liguagua and Franck Noto, blends studios, a gallery, a garden, and a bistro to offer emerging artists a unique platform. Thanks to its rich and diverse programming, Restanque has become a driving force of cultural dynamism for the region, while also providing residents with a welcoming space where creativity and culture converge.
Restanque’s Innovative Concept
Restanque is not simply a space dedicated to art, but rather a dynamic ecosystem where artists and creators can thrive together. Founded by Keini Liguagua and Franck Noto, this innovative structure combines workspace and living space with a gallery, a garden, and a bistro, all interconnected. This project took shape thanks to the City of Montpellier’s “Permis d’imaginer” (Permission to Imagine) program, which supports cultural projects in spaces undergoing transformation.
The Emergence of the Project
Following a long search for the ideal studio, Franck Noto and the LineUP association won the bid for Restanque in 2023. This 1500 m² building, formerly a warehouse and squat, has been transformed into an art haven. With a significant investment and over a year of renovations, Restanque has been metamorphosed to welcome artists from diverse backgrounds. A Thriving Ecosystem for Artists
Currently, Restanque houses 14 resident artists in 12 studios. Each space is designed to foster collaboration and synergy between creators specializing in design, screen printing, woodworking, and visual arts. For example, one screen printer created business cards for other residents.
Creative Partnerships
The workspace is also shared with Synanta, which explores ‘phygital’ art, and Oddity Factory, which supports artists in distributing their work. The coworking spaces encourage spontaneous encounters and the creation of collaborative projects in a constantly dynamic atmosphere. The Bistro: An Impressive Place for Socializing
