During the night from Monday to Tuesday, an ordinary roadside check in the streets of Montpellier took a completely unexpected turn. A young driver without a license, involved in several offenses, decided to flee the police, leaving behind a vehicle containing illicit substances, weapons and a large sum of cash.
A simple check that goes wrong
Rue Marius Carrieu in Montpellier, municipal police officers carry out a classic intervention. A vehicle is stopped for traffic offense. The driver, aged 19, displayed suspicious behavior and categorically refused to submit to the check. A frantic race ensues, with the young man taking control of his car to escape the law.
Chase and arrest
The suspect’s flight did not last long. The car was quickly found immobilized in the middle of the road by the police. The two occupants, still attempting a final escape, quickly exit and disperse in two opposite directions. THE driver is caught on the spot, while the passenger remains untraceable.
Discovery of the interior of the vehicle
While searching the abandoned vehicle, the police made a significant discovery: 330 grams of cannabis resin, 14 pregabalin tablets, three knives and nearly 1,000 euros in cash. This discovery quickly becomes a central point of the investigation, revealing the extent of the illicit activities to which the young person involved appears to be linked.
Immediate legal proceedings
Referred the next day to the Montpellier public prosecutor’s office, young driver is being tried immediately. The charges against him are serious: transportation and possession of narcotics, refusal to comply with a police order, carrying a prohibited weapon, lack of insurance, and lack of a driver’s license. What could have been a simple traffic violation has turned into a significant legal case.
Meanwhile, the Montpellier community is expressing a mixture of surprise and outrage at this incident, intertwining with intense sporting events such as the upcoming high-profile Montpellier match. Increased vigilance by law enforcement is aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future, while discussions continue around the impact of major events on the region.
