Nino Ferrer Park has opened its doors in the heart of the Montpellier Sud district, bringing a new dimension to this rapidly transforming area. Spanning 7,000 m², this public space embodies the desire to create a space for social and ecological diversity, while respecting the recommendations of the Multi-Year Flood Risk Prevention Plan (PPRI). With its 100 planted trees, leisure facilities, and strategic location, this park is a real breath of fresh air for residents and visitors. An innovative and committed public spaceInaugurated on Saturday, September 13, 2025, Nino Ferrer Park is located in the heart of the Montpellier Sud district, covering an area of 126 hectares. Designed by Altémed, this 7,000 m² space was developed with a budget of €1.8 million. Its creation responds to a desire for urban reclamation and soil de-impermeability, a crucial issue for this neighborhood, which is historically 91% impermeable. With more than 100 trees planted, Nino Ferrer Park becomes the first large green space in the Montpellier Sud neighborhood. A variety of amenities, such as picnic tables, ping-pong tables, and a shaded pergola, provide relaxation and leisure areas for all generations. The park is also part of the planted promenade project, which will extend an additional 400 meters by 2026, connecting several key areas of the city. A neighborhood undergoing rapid changeThe Montpellier Sud neighborhood, well integrated into urban reinvestment policies over the next 15 years, is seeing a growing number of initiatives aimed at transforming it into an attractive living space. In addition to the park, infrastructure such as the Samuel Paty School, cycle paths on Rue de l’Industrie and Avenue du Marché-Gare, and the development of commercial areas reinforce its dynamism. A memorable inaugural event The park’s inauguration was marked by a performance by the ACM HABITAT senior tenants’ choir, under the gaze of the Mayor of Montpellier, Michaël Delafosse. Spectators were able to discover this space to the rhythm of passionately sung melodies, following a series of rehearsals led by choir director Valérie Blanvillain. The Nino Ferrer Park is not an isolated project. It is part of the “50,000 Trees” initiative, launched in the fall of 2020, aimed at planting thousands of trees to make the city more resilient to climate change. The commitment to eco-responsibility is evident in every element of this park, strengthening biodiversity and providing peaceful havens for residents.
